FAQ about A-level TESL Kolej MARA Seremban (KMS)

Views:

I'm making this for my beloved unseen suju super junior. I want you all to be mentally prepared before you step into this college :) No this isn't a death note or whatever harmful, it's just a sweet reminder and advice. Here we go!

1. How many subjects do we take?
Basically 3 core subjects, with 1 elective.
Semester 1 & Semester 2: Sociology, Literature & Mathematics (Pure Maths 1 & Statistics 1)
Semester 3 & Semester 4: Sociology, Literature & Mathematics (Pure Maths 3 & Statistics 2)

In between the terms, you'll also have General Paper which depends on the college. Like my batch, we sit for GP exam in the final semester A2, but our juniors- in their AS.

2. What are AS and A2?
Maybe you could do some research on www.cie.org.uk. But basically, Advanced Subsidiary is the first-year examination and A2 is the final exam. The total points for each exam is 15. MARA's requirement is overall 13 points.

3. How is the point calculated?
A- 5 (80- 100)
B- 4 (70- 79)
C- 3 (60- 69)
D- 2 (50- 59)
E- 1 (40 -49)
U- 0
* These bands and grouping of marks are not constant, it may change in the real exam like in SPM, the threshold and everything. BUT, CIE is a board who is extremely concerned about their prestige, don't expect it to be VERY low. Even if it changes, will be involving like 2-3 marks only. In each exam, you have to score at least 13 points (A, B, B or A, A, C) minimum. Or else you'll need to repeat.

4. What is meant by 'repeat'?
When you don't score A in AS, you'll have to re-sit for the exam. AS is in May/ June and the repeat is in Oct/ Nov. For all courses, you get no A, you repeat. For TESL, if you get B for Sociology & Literature, you're safe. It's already too good to get a B. Be reminded, 'repeat' is not an easy thing. If in the repeat exam you still fail to get an A (Maths) or B (Sociology & Literature), you'll repeat again in May/ June in the following year together with A2 exam. Again, to repeat is to die.

5. Is it hard to get A?
Mathematics- Yes
Sociology- Hm yes.
Literature- Super yes!

Okay, if the toughness is to be scaled from 1 to 10 with 1 is the easiest, I scale them this way:
Mathematics: 4
Sociology: 7
Literature: 11 -___-
They are all easy to learn, fun to know but hard to score.

6. Are the teachers 'okay'?
Yes, they are. All of the teachers are female. Lemme introduce you to them.
Mathematics: changes every batch. Mine is Puan Suhaila.
Sociology: Ms Muna Ahmad
Literature: Ms Nina Abu Bakar
General Paper: Ms Julia Abd Rahman

7. Is TESL the hardest course?
It depends on the way you interpret 'hard'. For me, and many others, we see TESL as the toughest one in KMS. You don't get enough sleep, you sleep at 2-3am? That's normal!

8. Do we have chances to fly?
Yes. And no. You just have to be good in exams. But, bear in mind. Struggle along the way, not at the end of the journey. Chances of flying, everyone in A-level will have this worry but, you see every year many are flying. You can be one of them.

9. Any advice?
Just be strong. I really mean it. To stay in TESL is to live in pain. Nah, sounds exaggerating huh? Ha ha. Alright, be strong, be united, be prepared. TESL is not an easy thing when you do it in KMS. Time management and emotional management must take place.

Okay, I'm done. I can't really make up questions ha ha. I'll come up with new Q & A if anyone asks me later. Till then, good bye.

Owning a dog is an excellent way to improve your health and wellbeing. Observe if it has trouble walking or climbing, or if it doesn't walk or climb at all. Rodents, on the other hand, have little bladder control and are constantly relieving themselves wherever they are.

  3. Hi there. Can I still apply for TESL after foundation study? What is the minimum requirement? I was onced applied for it during my SPM year but I didn't showed up for the interview. So, yeah. A bit of regret there.

  4. @ Edi

Basically 90% of the students of this course are SPM leavers. So after 2 years of A-levels, we will fly to NZ. But usually before the departure like 3-4 months earlier, MARA will conduct an open interview for students from foundation or college under MARA (like kolej profesional mara etc). But they only take like 3-4 new people, while those SPM leavers are like 20 from Kolej MARA Seremban.

    Hope this helps :)

    1. Program ni under PILN MARA tapi setahu saya MARA dah tak taja program ni lagi. Wallahualam untuk 2017 macam mana. Tapi prosedur dia memang apply scholarship PILN dulu, then apply kursus dan MARA yang akan tempatkan awak di mana.
